As many of you have no doubt experienced, completing VAT
registrations in other EU Member States can be very difficult. However,
the Commission have presented a proposal on a new standard VAT return
to make compliance more efficient.
The Commission have issued a press release which states their
view that the new standard VAT return can cut costs for EU businesses
by up to €15 billion a year. The aim is to slash red-tape for
businesses, ease tax compliance and make tax administrations across the
Union more efficient.
The proposals state that the new VAT return will have five
compulsory boxes; Member States will be given leeway to request up to
21 additional boxes to be completed. This is a significant improvement
on the current position as some Member States require up to 100
information boxes to be completed.
Please find a link to the press release which provides more
information regarding the proposals:-
